101 BURGESS, Jesse
Jesse Burgess, son of John and Elizabeth Black Burgess, was born April 6, 1863, near Millersburg, Ind., and grew to manhood in and around that community. In August 1890, he was united in marriage to Miss Maggie Moore. To this union were born five children, namely: Noble, Ernest, Homer, Mable and an infant. Ernest, Homer and the infant died young. In 1899 his wife passed away, leaving him to care for the remaining children.
On October 27, 1903 he was united in marriage to Mrs. Carrie Wells Tarr. To this union were born five children, namely: Hazel, Jesse, Alice, Russell and Robin. He became a member of the Orleans Church of Christ several years ago, remaining a member until his death. For many years he followed stone cutting and spent the last several years of his life in Orleans, where for several months he suffered in failing health, gradually failing until December 31, 1936, he quietly passed away at the age of 73 years, 8 months and 25 days. He leaves to mourn his departure his wife and children, Mrs. Mable Zonkle of Bedford, Ind., Mrs. Hazle Williams, Noble, Jesse, Mrs. Alice Roll, Russell and Robin, all of Orleans; eight grandchildren; one brother, John, of Bedford; and many other relatives and a host of friends. The funeral was conducted at the Liberty Christian Church Sunday afternoon, Jan. 3, 1937, in charge of Rev. S. E. Wells and Ochs Undertakers. Mrs. Omer Kirby and Ott Brooks were singers with Prof. Omar Deich, pianist. Burial in the cemetery nearby.

108 Clouse - Jesse Clouse of Mitchell, IN, formerly of Mooresville, IN, died Sunday, February 21, 1999, at Bedford Regional Medical Center. Born on July 1, 1913, in Mitchell, IN, he was the son of Henry and Nora B. (Wood) Clouse, Sr. He married Helen Powell on October 24, 1936, and she survives.

Also surviving are one son, Robert Hugh Clouse of Indianapolis; one foster son, Jimmy Quattrocchi of Indianapolis; two brothers, Lowell Clouse of Frost Proof, FL, and Henry Clouse, Jr. of Mitchell, IN; four sisters: Elsie Mesarosh of Apple Valley, CA, Edwina Jones of Salinas, CA, Mearle McCoy of Franklin, IN, and Mildred Bauerle of Seymour, IN; three grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers: Paul and Bob Clouse; and three sisters: Thelma Gerkin and Ruth and Maxine Clouse.

He had been an inspector at General Motors Bus and Truck Division in Indianapolis and was a member of United Auto Workers Local 32, Indianapolis. He attended Wesleyan churches in Mitchell and Mooresville.

Services for Jesse Clouse will be at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 24th, at the Mitchell Wesleyan Church with the Revs. Wes Jones, Michael Lynville, and Fred Cromer officiating. Burial will follow in Mitchell Cemetery. Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday and 9-11 a.m. Wednesday at Haverly Mortuary and from noon until the service time Wednesday at the church./

114 Cornett - Vernon Cornett of Williams died Thursday, November 6, 1997, at Dunn Memorial Hospital in Bedford. Born in Hazard, KY, on February 9, 1924, he was the son of Boyd and Mary (McLemore) Cornett. He married Phyllis Wright in 1951, and she preceded him in death in 1966. He married Barbara Reynolds in 1967, and she survives.

Also surviving are two step-sons: Tom Reynolds of Williams, IN, and Rick Reynolds of Bedford; five step-grandchildren; two step great grandchildren; four brothers: John Cornett of Williams, Fred Cornett, Walter Cornett, all of Williams, and Leonard Cornett of Shoals, IN; three sisters: Georgia Plummer of Williams, Sally Davies of Talladega, AL, and Hattie Bowman of Montgomery, AL; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by four brothers: Lawrence, Robert, Bill, and Troy Cornett; and one sister, Bertie Keith.

An Army veteran of World War II, he was retired in 1973 from NAD Crane and was a heavy equipment operator. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Williams.

Services for Vernon Cornett will be Monday, November 10th, at 1:00 p.m. at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home with Pastor Dana Adams officiating. Burial will be in Indian Creek Baptist Cemetery. Friends may call Sunday, November 9th, from 2-8 p.m. at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home.

115 Cornett - Walter Cornett of Williams, IN, died Tuesday, February 1, 2000, at Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born on December 19, 1927, in Diablock (Perry County), KY, he was the son of Boyd and Mary (McLemore) Cornett. He married Allene Adams on August 4, 1951, and she survives.

Also surviving are one son, Warren Cornett of Williams, IN; three sisters: Salley Daviess of Alabama, Hattie Bowman of Melbourne, FL, Georgia Plummer of Williams, IN; two brothers, Fred Cornett of Williams, IN, and Leonard Cornett of Shoals, IN; and one step-granddaughter, Deanna Johnson of Williams, IN; He was preceded in death by one sister, Bertie Keith, and six brothers: Lawrence, Robert, William, Johnny, Vernon, and Troy.

He retired from NAD Crane, and was a veteran of the U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force. He was a charter member of Bethel Baptist Church of Williams, where he was a deacon and treasurer.

Services for Walter Cornett will be at 12 noon on Friday, February 4th, at the Day & Carter Mortuary with Pastor Dana Adams officiating. Burial will follow in the Indian Creek Primitive Baptist Cemetery with military rites accorded by members of the American Legion Gillen Post #33 of Bedford. Friends may call from 3-8 p.m. Thursday at the Day & Carter Mortuary. The family asks that friends consider memorial contributions to The American Cancer Society of the Gideons.

150 Hall - Mary Alice Corey Hall of Bedford, IN, died Wednesday, May 9, 2001, at the I.U. Medical Center in Indianapolis. Born on August 11, 1943, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Lindon (Bud) and Eugenia (Harper) Rock. She first married Everett Corey; she later married Joe Hall.

Surviving are three daughters and their husbands: Donna & Kevin Burgess of Bedford, IN, Paula & Charles Feldhaus of Jeffersonville, IN, and Tammy & William Corps of Martinsville, IN; one son and his wife, James & Athena Corey of Bedford, IN; her father and step-mother, Lindon and Georgeanna Rock of Francisco, IN; two sisters, Dena of Francisco, IN and Lia of Arizona; one brother, August of Florida; one half-brother, Denny Chenault; nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and one aunt. She was preceded in death by her mother; one son, Charles Ray; one sister, Lynette; and one great-grandson.

She was a homemaker and attended East Oolitic Community Church.

There will be graveside services for Mary Hall at 3:30 p.m. Monday, May 14th, at the Hilltop Cemetery with the Rev. Millard Jones officiating. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. Monday at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
