Surviving are one daughter, Freida Hodges and her husband Bennie of Mitchell, IN; one grandson, Frank Hodges and his wife Carolyn of Mitchell, IN; one great-grandson, John S. Hodges of Mitchell, IN; one great-granddaughter, Erin Jo Hodges of Mitchell, IN; one sister, Maxine Wood and her husband Bob of Mitchell, IN; one brother, Glenn Terry and his wife Jeanine of Tulsa, OK; two sisters-in-law, Donna Terry of Corpus Christi, TX, and Bessie Terry of Mitchell, IN; one brother-in-law, Jesse Cochran of Fort Worth, TX; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband; one daughter, Wilma Joanne Hawk, in infancy; one granddaughter, Cathy Ann Hodges, infancy; one sister, Virginia Cochran; and three brothers, Lester, Chester and Roy Terry. She graduated from Mitchell High School with the class of 1932. Early in her adult life, she was employed at Reliance Manufacturing in Mitchell. She worked as a tester at RCA in Bloomington, retiring in 1974 after 27 years of service. After retiring from RCA, she worked part-time at AgriPro Seeds in Mitchell. She was a member of Englewood Baptist Church in Bedford. Services for Mildred Hawk will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 29th, at Chastain Funeral Home. He was preceded in death by his wife, one grandchild, four brothers, and one sister. He retired from Central Foundry in 1980 and was an Army veteran of WW II. He was a member of the Mitchell Nazarene Church and the Cecil C. Martin American Legion Post 250. Services for Chester Wood will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 3rd, at Haverly Mortuary with Pastor Alan Reed officiating. Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens. John E. was the son of Dawson Burgess (1811?-1870?) of Orange Co., VA, the son of Mason Peyton Burgess (1776-1845) of Orange Co., VA, the son of Edward Burgess Jr. (1739-1819) of Fauquier Co., VA, the son of Edward Burgess Sr. (1699?-1759) of King George Co., VA, the son of William Burgess (1670?-1712) of Richmond (later King George) Co., VA. Rhoda married Leander M. Roberts on 9 Sept. 1886 in Orange Co., and died there on 14 Apr. 1916. I have three of her Roberts children written into the master copy of my book as updates: John R. (born 8 Jul. 1888), Clyde B. (born 5 Jan. 1890, died 17 Dec. 1949), and Roy G. (born 20 Jul. 1892, died May 1972 in TX), but know nothing else about her family. Copies of the 700-page The House of the Burgesses, which details 25,000 descendants of William Burgess, are available for $60 postpaid from Millefleurs, P.O. Box 2845, San Bernardino, CA 92406.
